Because starting in adolescence, during these “formative years,” teens are figuring out and trying to define their identity.

Every well-intentioned attempt to “fix” my behavior fell flat because all these self-destructive behaviors and bad choices were just symptoms of a deeper cause: I BELIEVED I was a bad kid.

Because, during a simple, living room “pep talk” at one of the lowest points in my life, my foster parents looked me in the eye and told me that I wasn’t a problem; I was an opportunity.
